Jio launched its most awaited project of 2019 with the JioFiber Plans. But it is not really having any potential to disrupt the existing industry.
This time, we can’t say that Jio is doing anything revolutionary.
JioFiber Plans – Lack of Clarity
1] Cost + GST
If you visit the website of JioFiber then you will find that Jio is providing all its plans from Rs 699 per month up to Rs 8,499 per month.
So, you somehow arrange Rupees 699 for the Bronze pack (cheapest of all) and proceed with the pack. While you were billing, you found that the cost has suddenly become Rs 824.82/-
Rs 699 + 18% GST on plan = 699 + 125.82 = 824.82
But if you observe the mobile data rates, the rates are clearly inclusive of GST. Why is Jio becoming partial here?
Similarly, all the charges become something like this:
Hence, the decision is up to you.

2] Speed and Data Limits
Firstly, for those who don’t know the meaning of FUP, I will keep it simple.
FUP stands for Fair Usage Policy. WiFi is unlimited data, right?
Wrong. Once a consumer reaches to certain data transfer limit, speed is reduced as stated in the plan while unlimited data download is guaranteed at reduced speed.
Jio says that FUP is 1 Mbps after using 100 GB. Just imagine getting a speed of 1 Mbps after having fun with 100 Mbps.
That is to say, you are getting only 100 GB per month. That 50 GB extra data is just a welcome offer and nothing more than that. It is nowhere mentioned whether the extra 50 GB data is monthly or for the entire span of 6 months.
Technically, Mobile Jio data is cheaper than JioFiber.
Speed? I don’t really believe if someone claims to push a speed ‘up to’ 100 Mbps because that is the maximum limit. Jio doesn’t guarantee a minimum threshold for JioFiber speeds. Mind it!
Well, if Jio claimed the speed from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps in the launch event then how did it suddenly become ‘up to’ 100 Mbps for the basic plan?
As the users will grow in number, speeds might reduce. The same thing happened with Jio SIM cards.
3] Installation Charges and Equipment
Again, at a corner in the bottom, you will find other charges.
One Time Payment (security deposit + non-refundable installation) ₹2,500 (1,500 + 1,000)Add this cost to your monthly plan
As the hype was created about free Television, it is merely for the Diamond, Platinum, and Titanium subscribers. So, a bronze, silver and gold subscribers will get a Bluetooth speaker. Likewise, Diamond and Platinum subscribers will get an HD Television (not even a Full HD TV!).
Finally, Titanium subscribers will be the ones to get a Full HD TV for free.
Twist in the story ~ You will get these freebies only if you pay for one complete year at once. Tada! *Slow claps*
If you opt for three or six-month program then you will get nothing but a Thullu!
Also, if I am not interested in the telephone or Television that they are providing then I have no such option to opt-out.
They should have kept an option to deduct the amount if someone wants to opt-out of this scheme.
4] OTT Apps by Jio
Jio provides subscription of OTT Apps for all except the Bronze subscription. For Bronze, they are providing JioSaavn and JioCinema. *Meh*
However, there is no mention of OTT apps anywhere. I even tried to check the page of Terms and Conditions but no such page exists.
Are they providing Netflix, Amazon Prime, Alt Balaji, etc? Or excluding any of the apps? Isn’t it important to inform about these apps? There are hundreds of OTT Apps in the market and not everyone loves those 2 famous apps only!
5] No Monthly Plans
If you check their website for booking then you won’t find any monthly charges. Sure, rates are given on a monthly basis but there is an option to opt for a single month.
You have to compulsorily opt for an annual plan or 6-month plan or at least a 3-month plan. Once you are stuck for a minimum of 3 months, you have to deal with it. You won’t be refunded a single penny.
All the figures and screenshots are taken from the Official Website of JioFiber.
Should I go for JioFiber Plans?
Firstly, check if you really need a broadband or WiFi connection. Secondly, compare JioFiber Plans with your local ISPs. Don’t go with Jio just because it is Jio – the revolutionary game-changer. This time, it pooped out.
Jio Gigafiber raised too much of hype when it was launched by Jio but it is clearly disappointing if you go in details.
The real reason for disappointment is not the price but the ambiguous behavior by such a large company Jio. Why are so many facts kept unclear and why didn’t they even mention a page of Terms and Conditions?
I am writing this blog post on September 09, 2019 and there is no T&C page as per now. We can expect that after a few days. Let’s see. But how can such a huge brand miss such basic things?
Moreover, there is nothing revolutionary this time. The same rates are offered by local ISPs without so much of pomp and makeup.
If it is available at your place and you don’t have any better option then Jio will be a good option.
But if you were waiting for your ISP to reduce the rates because of ‘Jio Revolution’ then it is not going to happen so soon. Good luck!
